Hotel Montreal: New and Selected Poems

Hotel Montreal: New and Selected Poems
  • Fabricant:  Talonbooks, Ltd.
Written with a bridled blues romanticism, Ken Norris's Hotel Montreal collects the best of a varied career in poetry (aside from his ongoing, multi-volume Report on the Second Half of the Twentieth Century series), including a selection of new poems. Part of the 1970s' Montreal poetry renaissance, and one of the original Véhicule Poets, Norris has always been its most productive graduate. An American-born Canadian poet, he has authored over 30 books, including essays, poetry, anthologies, and criticism. His influences have been as interesting as they've been diverse, from A. M. Klein and Louis Dudek, Leonard Cohen and Eric Clapton, to David W. McFadden and Frank O'Hara, as well as other poets from the Véhicule days: Artie Gold, Tom Konyves, Endre Farkas, and Claudia Lapp. In "Rightness, " he pays tribute to some of those influences: Irving was right
about the Philistines.

Louis was right
about the Barbarians.

Phyllis was right
about Despair and Suicide.

Leonard was right
about the crack in everything.

bp was right
about the saints of language. For all of Norris's strengths, all he has ever needed was a strong editor, and here he has it. As the selections in Hotel Montreal show, when Norris is on, he is brilliantly on. --Rob McLennan  Author(s): Ken Norris.  Binding Paperback.  Publisher(s): Talonbooks.  Label: Talonbooks.
