act 2: the blood and the life eternal
Shakespeare once penned a memorable line about “sound and fury signifying nothing. ” In the case of Windsor's Neverending White Lights, sound and fury signifies the dramatic, orchestral instrumental opening of their sophomore album Act ll: the blood and the life eternal. Act ll features a rotating lineup of lead singers (including Hawksley Workman and Auf Der Maur) emoting along to the weighty tunes of Victor, music that engages in strong '80s and '90's alterna-rock leanings: “Always” could seamlessly fit onto Smashing Pumpkins' Gish, “Black Is the Colour of My True Love's Heart” sounds straight out of the Dead Can Dance handbook and “Dove Coloured Sky” is uncomfortably close to a number of David Sylvian tunes. While the singers change, there is one constant throughout. . . a goth-affected solemnity that is at times too wrought for its own good. Then again, what else would you expect from a man who names his choral group the Holy Trinity Vampire Choir? --Denise Sheppard Binding Audio CD. Artist(s): Neverending White Light.
