Lets Keep It That Way / New Kind Of Feeling
This disc collects two of the Canadian songbird's late '70s albums. Let's Keep It That Way, from 1978, includes the hits "Walk Right Back" and the ultimate in Canadian AM radio balladry from that era, "You Needed Me. " The rest of the disc alternates lite-pop fare such as the sweet anti-infidelity tune "Let's Keep It That Way" and the dignified "I Still Wish the Very Best for You" with more ballads, including Kim Carnes's "You're a Part of Me" and Kenny Rogers's "We Don't Make Love Anymore. " For good measure, Murray--whom actor Burt Reynolds once called his favourite singer--throws in some mock reggae ("Hold Me Tight") and a fine rendition of a standard ("Tennessee Waltz"). All have arrangements that are barely detectable, the better to emphasize Murray's voice, as crisp and clear as a church bell on the morning after the year's first snowfall. New Kind of Feeling, from 1979, is a little more varied and has stronger songs, including the single "I Just Fall in Love Again" and the familiar "Shadows in the Moonlight. " Pop fluff like "You've Got What It Takes" and the Latin-flavoured "Yucatan Cafe, " as well as hopelessly romantic tracks like "That's Why I Love You" and "For No Reason at All" fill out the rest of the record. Collected together, as they are here, the two albums offer a portrait of Murray's strongest, or at least most commercial, period. --Shawn Conner Binding Audio CD. Artist(s): Anne Murray.
